ACE-031 is a solubble expression of the activin receptor of tyoe IIB. This receptor acts as a myostatin inhibitor and also inhibits other proteins that restrict the rate at which your muscle growth.This compound was developed artificially by the use of genes with the aim of binding myostatin. The motive of this is to prevent myostatin from attaching itself to the receptor and hakting the growth of muscle. Shire and acceleron are the institutuins that worked on this product.
ACE-031 is a recombinant fusion protein, produced when part of ActRIIB receptor and part of standard antibody are combined. This will then create a decoy version of ActRIIB that circulates and eliminates proteins such as GDF-8 (also known as myostatin) and other molecules that limit muscle strength or growth.
